Thorsten Fink is the new head coach of KRC Genk. Fink makes the move from Sint-Truiden where he won praise last season for his attractive football. The 56-year-old German signs an open-ended contract at the Cegeka Arena.

Fink can look back on a glorious playing career in which he achieved his greatest successes with Bayern Munich. In Munich, he became four-time national champion, won three times the German Cup, the Champions League and the World Cup for clubs. As a coach, too, he can already boast some fine letters of honour. As head coach of FC Basel, he won the Swiss national title twice and the cup once. With Vissel Kobe, including Andrès Iniesta, David Villa and ex-Red devil Thomas Vermaelen in the squad, he also took the double in Japan.

Domestically, Fink earned praise last season at Sint-Truiden mainly for his attractive style of play. With that positive outlook on football, he aroused the interest of the Genk club management. "One look at his record says it all: Fink is a winner. Both as a player and later as a coach, he has grabbed prizes. He also always links those results to positive football and he dares to integrate young people. It is no secret that at KRC Genk the development of young talents is an important cornerstone of our operation. It makes Thorsten the right person to lead our young group next season," sounds the proud words of General Director Erik Gerits.

Shared ambitions

With Fink at the helm, KRC Genk's ambitions remain unchanged for next season as well. "Domestically, we again aim for a place among the first six after which we want to compete in the Champions' Play-offs and force a European ticket," sounds Head of Football Dimitri de Condé. An ambition he shares with the new Genk head coach: "KRC Genk is one of the best teams in the league and a club with a wonderful past. Like many people involved in the club, my father was a miner. Hard work is a value I inherited from home and also want to propagate here. Furthermore, the club and I share the same football philosophy. KRC Genk is known for its great youth work and has a strong promising team in the Challenger Pro League. I cannot wait to work with all those talents of today and tomorrow. I want to grab prizes here and prove myself together with the club on the international stage," the brand-new coach enthused.

Fink signs an indefinite contract in Genk. Assistant coach Sebastian Hahn and Physical coach Goran Kontic join him on the move from Sint-Truiden.
